We enthusiastically support Jonathan Essex's call for 20mph speed limits in residential areas and outside schools and care homes.
Twenty miles per hour zones would not require speed humps but would encourage careful, disciplined and enjoyable driving in areas which are usually more congested, and where a speed of 30mph is, anyway, usually not appropriate.
A lower speed limit is not just about reducing injuries.
Wouldn't this also show respect for the most vulnerable and give us all a quieter, gentler and more pleasant environment?
