An unemployed Merstham man has been given a post conviction five-year Asbo which bans him from entering Redhill town centre, the Cromwell Estate and being drunk in public.
Craig Gorringe, 23, of Nailsworth Crescent, appeared at South East Surrey Magistrates court, where he was sentenced to three months in prison after being found guilty of public order offences and also given the five-year Asbo.
The Asbo will begin when Gorringe is released from prison in January and will run until October 2014.
PC Doug Stott said: “Gorringe has caused misery to his neighbours in Merstham, Redhill and Leatherhead with his alcohol related antisocial behaviour and the criminal offences he committed.
“I know the local community was fed up with his aggressive and abusive behaviour which is why Surrey Police and our partners have taken this zero-tolerance approach towards him.
“It was clear Gorringe’s behaviour had been spiralling out of control after he was arrested and charged with public order offences and his drunk and disorderly behaviour, which were regularly witnessed by the local community, increased.
“I hope the post conviction Asbo will help regulate Gorringe’s behaviour but more importantly the local community is reassured that Surrey Police will take robust action against anyone behaving in a similar way.”
