A military fitness initiative hopes to raise £100,000 by the end of this year after already raising a staggering £50,000 for The Children’s Trust charity.
The Children’s Trust, based in Surrey, is the UK’s leading charity for children with brain injury. The cause works with children and young people from across the UK to provide the opportunity for them to live the best life possible.
Paul Prothero, British Military Fitness (BMF) Park Manager, has relentlessly fundraised through a succession of events from clothes recycling to curry nights with the help from a team of people who attend his Reigate BMF sessions in Priory Park.
The latest fundraising initiative was to organise a charity netball tournament which raised a total of £305 with another being organised for October this year due to its success.
Mr Prothero said: “I really wanted to do something positive for the community; The Children’s Trust is a local charity and the work it does is phenomenal.
“We still have a lot of work to do but we have so many good events coming up, including the London and Brighton Marathon, so I’m confident we can do it.”
The 18 places given to the team for the London Marathon by The Children’s Trust has inspired 10 people to gain their own places for the charity, a further 10 to run for them in the Brighton marathon, as well as over 20 others running for other charities or on their own ballots.
Mr Prothero’s work doesn’t stop there, as he has taken to mentoring every runner over the past five months to ensure they are all prepared for their individual challenges.
