Sixties chart-toppers The Tremeloes and Marmalade will team up on a bill rich with hits and nostalgia at Fairfield Halls, Croydon, next month.
The bands, both of which have toured since the 1960s and are now in demand on the revival circuit, will be taking the stage at Fairfield Halls Concert Hall for the Super 60s show on Thursday, September 4, at 8pm. Fans of the sound of the Swinging 60s can look forward to a set peppered with hits from The Tremeloes.
Between 1963 and 1971, they chalked up 11 Top Ten hits and had 21 singles in the top 40. In a celebrated coup for the band, the record label Decca signed The Tremeloes up in favour of The Beatles who had auditioned on the same day.
Their first number one, Do You Love Me, came in 1963, and the hit they are best remembered for, Silence is Golden, went to number one in 1967. Marmalade topped the charts a year later with their version of The Beatles' track, Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da. Formed in Scotland in 1963, they began making headlines in the mid-60s and between 1968 and 1976 enjoyed 11 top 40 hits, including eight singles in the top ten.
