Susannah May November 6th, 2023
I was in the same year as Alain at St. Peter's and it was through reading the SPC Record of 2021 that I have just learnt of Alain's death. We had friends in common and it was a small enough college that we all knew each other quite well. I have thought regularly if Alain through the years and I am really happy that he married and,had a family. He was a kind and gentle guy. I am so sorry to hear that he died in 2021. My condolences to you all and I am thinking of Alain and you all from France. Best wishes from Susannah May (Law and French, St. Peter's, 1993-1997).

My deepest sympathy goes out to Alain's family and friends in their tragic loss.
Looking back across my 36 years (1967- 2003) as a teacher of English at Tiffin School, Kingston-upon Thames, Alain stands out in the memory as one of a very small number of absolutely outstanding students. It was no surprise that he won a place at Oxford and achieved first class honours in his degree. More importantly, he was an unfailingly kind, modest and unassuming young man.
I'm pleased to know that he spent some years (2005-2016) teaching at Blatchington Mill School, where I had been a pupil (1954-1962) during its previous incarnation as Hove Grammar School.
