My darling mum passed away on 26 June in the village of Bassingbourn in Cambridgeshire. Mum fell ill just before Christmas and was diagnosed with kidney cancer in January. The doctors told us there was nothing to be done, so she bravely fought her illness until she could no more. She left us on a beautiful sunny day, with the birds singing, surrounded by flowers and looking onto the meadow where she was able to watch the rabbits & the occasional deer, which delighted her. Mum was a devoted wife and mother. She lovingly looked after my dad throughout his long illness until he passed away in January last year. After dad left us, mum tried to make a new life for herself with me, new friends and neighbours, and there were always her friends on WhatsApp and Facebook to chat to. She loved her garden and spent last summer planting her favourite flowers, and making the most of the apples, pears and rhubarb that grew in her garden. Mum & I spent a lot of time together after dad passed away; we visited relatives, went on day trips to local markets & country houses, & garden centres for tea and scones. She enjoyed all this, but she never got over losing dad. They were married for 61 years; she lost her husband, her best friend & constant companion.

Rose and Peter are together again now. They were inseparable in life, and now they are both gone, I find myself thinking of them as a pair as I always did, as Mum & Dad. I will miss them very much, their loss is a big gap in my life which will never be filled, but I will remember them with much love for what they did for me & the love they gave to me unconditionally.

Rose and Peter were much loved by their friends in Cape Town who became their family over the 50 years they lived there: Sandra, Keith & Lisa; Beryl, Alan & Clair; Ruth & Tommy; and Jimmy & Verity, thank you for the love and support you gave mum & dad especially when I couldn't be there. RIP Mum
