Dave, one of the good guys, who I only have fond memories of. His presence at any gathering was a bonus for all involved
I first met Dave back in the 60’s working in the Tax Office. Dave was one of those people everyone liked, always seemed to have a smile on his face and I don’t think that I ever heard anyone say a bad word about him.
Apart from being such a good looking guy, not fair on the rest of us guys but we still loved him, probably not as much as the girls did though, he was also so good at sport he could play all sports (even when we sneaked off to the pub at lunch times everyone wanted Dave as their partner for bar billiards) and play them well and still we loved him.
It will always be a regret of mine that when I returned to England after working abroad for several years that never I got back in touch with Dave until one of the reunions of the Tax Office team of the 60’s. When we did meet up again it was all so easy with Dave, as if we had never been out of contact with one another.
A lovely, lovely man I feel very proud to have been able to call Dave my friend and I will miss him very much
My heart goes out to all of his family, I am sure that you do not need me to tell you what a wonderful person Dave was and how lucky you all are to have had Dave in your lives.
Love to you all

I too was at Lewes Tax Office all those years ago and was very pleased to meet him again at The Black Horse. He was always cheerful and very popular. We are thinking of you and your family.

I met Dave in the 60's when we both worked at the Lewes Tax Office; a friend with a ready grin and laugh! I used to give him a lift to Lewes in my A35 van (those were the days!) and also to and from the cricket matches which we often lost and needed consolation in a nearby hostelry. I know he will be missed by many and I send my condolences to his family. Derek Billett

I am also an old colleague of Dave's and we re-met at the Black Horse as mentioned by Tom. Dave was always well liked and popular - and much better at cricket than I was! We're sad that you are no longer with us but are thinking of you and your family.

So sad to hear of the passing of Dave. He was a friend of mine from my first day at work in Lewes Tax Office. We played cricket and football together, enjoyed a few ales! and maintained our friendship through informal gatherings over the years at The Black Horse in Lewes with other colleagues from those mad days in the 60's. His humour and kindness will always be remembered. Condolences to the family, Tom Hedley.
